Design for the Future

January 29, 2021

With the current climate crisis, many people are now looking to ensure their lives, and subsequently their homes, are as eco-friendly as possible. We are finding that along with our guaranteed quality, how sustainable and eco-friendly our materials are has become an even more important part of our design process. We strive to ensure our designs are perfect for our clients, which is why our initial home surveys are so important.

What makes our products sustainable?

Here at Interiors By Design, we pride ourselves on local partnerships and locally sourced materials. We have our own in-house workshop in Leicester supervised by long-established local kitchen fitter, Simon Colebourne.

Materials:

We use EGGER 18mm Melamine Faced Chipboard (MFC) in our workshop. All EGGER’s products have environmental performance indicators with their MFC boards consisting of 85% renewable resources and a “Co2/m2 of -13.3kg as the wood absorbs more CO2 during its growth than is emitted during the transport and production process”. EGGER also source all of their wood sustainably and all their wood based products are verified by independent third parties according to ISO 38200 standards, confirming the legality of the origin of the wood. Here at Interiors By Design, we comply with and meet with all European Standards. These specify the surface requirements and dimensional tolerances for decorative MFC boards for interior use, to ensure your kitchen or bedroom is 100% safe, reliable and enjoyable. These materials are easy to clean, beautifully designed, whilst being environmentally friendly and recyclable so nothing is wasted in our working process.

You can be sure our timber worktops are sustainably and responsibly sourced. Our supplier, keeps wastage to a minimum, using any leftover wood to create samples or byproducts and any unusable offcuts are used to fuel their biomass boiler. They only use wood that is sustainably milled and is FSC certified and the timber they purchase is from sustainable forests with established replanting programmes so you can be certain any Interiors By Design kitchen with these materials is helping towards encouraging biodiversity and reducing negative impact on the environment.

We even ensure our hinges and hardware are sustainably produced. Blum, our supplier are committed to environmentally friendly practices. They take responsibility for their environmental impact and operate responsibly, proven by their ISO 14001 and ISO 50001 certifications.

Machinery:

We are investing in new Biesse manufacturing machinery, the cutting-edge Biesse Akron 1130 edgebander and high performance Biesse V31 Skipper, due to arrive in the next couple of months, to fine-tune production and ensure we are as sustainable as can be. We are incredibly excited to use these machines, and are proud supporters of Biesse. Each investment allows us to ensure our operations are environmentally-friendly, economical, reliable, and guaranteed to create high value solutions.

A top tip from our workshop...

When choosing features and appliances of your new kitchen, an easy swap is to install a hot water tap rather than a kettle - we would recommend Quooker. Hot water taps keep your boiled water at a consistently high temperature, without using much energy, so not only are they more convenient, they are environmentally friendly!

In ordinary times, we would be able to invite you to our showroom to see our beautiful products for yourself, however due to COVID-19, our showroom is currently closed. We can however, still conduct COVID-safe home surveys. To book yours please get in touch on 01162882222 or at sales@interiorsbydesignuk.com
